With the increasing popularity of resale platforms, from the customer to customer formats such as eBay and Poshmark, to business to customer such as The Real Real, how to distinguish authentic luxury items from counterfeits becomes one of the biggest challenges for all platforms, especially for the customer to customer business.  Where there is a need, there is a market.

The third-party authentication services industry is booming since covid. A variety of authentication services have popped up, since then. Most of them offer services for a large range of brands such as LV, Channel, Tory Burch, Coach etc. The advantage is obvious, as they can accommodate a wide range of customers, however, the downside can be seen with accuracy, especially for middle-level brands such as Tory Burch.

We did a test run with a relatively obvious replica by sending pictures to three different services. Authenticate First, Real Authentication,  and Legitgrails. Here is our assessment from highest to lowest.
